LOS ANGELES -- Rusty Ryal homered in the top of the 10th inning to lead the D-backs to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory against the D-backs on Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
Late in the game, it was announced that the Dodgers had acquired slugger Jim Thome from the White Sox and right-hander Jon Garland, the latter coming from the opposing D-backs.
Back-to-back home runs from Manny Ramirez and Matt Kemp in the sixth inning gave Los Angeles a brief 3-2 lead that lasted until Justin Upton smacked a solo homer off reliever George Sherrill in the top of the eighth.
That run was Sherrill's first allowed as a Dodger. He had tossed 14 1/3 scoreless innings in 14 appearances with Los Angeles since the club acquired him from Baltimore on July 30.
The loss overshadowed another solid outing for Dodgers starter Randy Wolf.
Apart from the second inning, in which he was hit hard for two runs, Wolf resembled the dominant pitcher he's been for much of August.
In seven August starts, Wolf has lost once and has lasted at least seven innings five times.
