As our Dodgers are currently constructed, I don't believe we have enough offensive firepower to do any damage in the playoffs.

Aside from the disabled Matt Kemp, and Andre Ethier, there isn't another player on this team who is a threat to hit 15HRs.

We have virtually no power from the corner infield positions. Most teams have power at both, we have it at neither.

We must find a 1B or 3B with power. Our pitching will only take us so far.

Two straight offseasons, we could have landed a power hitting 1B. Adam Dunn in the 2010 offseason, and Prince Fielder this past offseason. However, no attempt was made at Dunn, and Fielder generated only mild interest from our Dodgers.

Let's be realistic, the James Loney experiment is a failure. The guy gets hot every now and then, but he just can not hit for the power needed for a 1B.

Juan Uribe is oft-injured, and he too has very little pop. At this point in the season, I'm guessing, but I believe we have a combined 3HR from our corner infielders, and that my friends will not get it done..

^^I agree- today was a perfect example. 2 runs in Colorado is just not going to get it done. 3 hits- that's like a no hitter just about at Coors Field. The pitching staff did a great job holding to the Rockies to just 3 runs. Looney just hasn't been doing a good job so far this season, and was very medicocre last year as well. He had that one good year with like 15 homers and 90+ RBIs, but other than that he's been hitting more like a second baseman.

Abreu is doing a solid job, but yeah he's no power guy either. Until we get another big bat, we're going to have to make things happen by drawing walks and being aggressive on the base pads.

It has been like this for many years. The only time we had a productive offense was the summer of 08 when Manny arrived. Too bad our pitchers were still very young at that point.

I have been on Loney for years, we just can't look past the fact that he's a big 1B who has very little power, although it's rumored that he hits some moon shots in BP. So, perhaps there is some pop there, but it just doesn't come out in games.

You can see that Mattingly is growing frustrated by Loney. On Monday night, Rivera started in Loney's stead with a righty on the mound.

It is a shame, because we know he can be productive, but IMO he doesn't work on his craft hard enough... Due plays for arguably the 2nd most storied franchise in MLB, and should be honored. Bottom line, the guy just isn't earning his money, or getting the job done. Time to look elsewhere for some 1B power....

^^John- agreed- I think Loney has had enough chances. Time to trade him- I'm not sure what his contract status though- I don't remember us signing him to a long term contract or anything, thankfully.

Dave

Loney is under contract through this season... He either went to arbitration this winter, or avoided it by signing a one year deal..

Quite frankly I don't remember, because it's a painful memory. One I try to block out.....

Well, Loney has been doing better lately. If he can hit .300 I'd actually be okay with him not producing too many homers.

I agree. Small ball ain't gonna cut it. The fact that Donnie had Loney bunting on Friday with two on and nobody out was just so dumb.

^^Hey nice to see you here Grill! Yeah I agree that was a bit dumb because Loney is not exactly the best bunter. I thought it was a strategically sound move to bunt though. Might as well hit for him with a guy who can bunt in that situation instead.
