"If you're going to hit a homer, act like you've hit one before," Burnett said. "The first batter, Loney, hit one, was very professional about it. Ran hard the whole way. I just thought he did a little something at second base. I could be wrong. It was heat of the moment."

When Ramirez struck out swinging to end the sixth, Burnett screamed at him as he walked off the mound. Ramirez was reprimanded by Campos for throwing his bat, and the two had a somewhat-heated discussion.

"I was just excited to get him out," Burnett said. "Every time someone clicks one off you, you want to get him out the next time up. He drove one that went pretty far, and then I was able to get him out so I was pretty fired up."

That incident wasn't close to being the most contentious moment of the game.

Kemp struck out to end the first. He and Mattingly confirmed that the Dodgers dugout was barking about balls and strikes when Andre Ethier led off the following inning, prompting Campos to deliver an unofficial warning to the Dodgers dugout.

"Then I said, 'Let's go 'Dre,' and he tossed me out of the game," Kemp said. "You've got two teams going at it in a pennant race. We're trying to build the lead against the Giants and Arizona, and I get thrown out for cheering my teammate."

Kemp's ejection angered Mattingly, who sprinted out to Campos. Kemp wasn't far behind, and needed to be restrained, at different times, by Mattingly, teammate Shane Victorino, bench coach Trey Hillman and other umpires. He bumped into an umpire at least once.

After a few minutes of arguing, Mattingly was ejected by crew chief Tim Tschida. Mattingly stayed on the field for several more minutes of animated discussion before an umpire summoned Hillman to come out to retrieve Mattingly.

"This isn't about being mad," Mattingly said. "This is something that has to go above me. It needs to go to the league. We're in a pennant race, and I've got a guy who was second in the MVP (voting) last year, and you can't take him out of the game for cheering for a teammate. If we had gone out of control, that's different. This is just unacceptable behavior (by Campos)."

Mattingly's ejection was his sixth this season; Kemp was tossed for the first time.

Apparently the umpire is a minor league umpire who fills in for major league umpires on vacation. It's nice to have our best player thrown out the game for cheering on a teammate.

Jeff yeah that was so weak. The ump was probably all heated and heard "Let's go Dre" with "You suck ump". Still- man Joe Blanton- I don't even know WTH he was doing after he gave up 8 runs and started barking at the ump after being taken out of the game. Like that's going to distract from his crappy performance?

That's ironic that Burnett said Loney acted like he hit a home run before- that's his first one of the season! Oh wait, I guess he did hit 2 of them before that one. Just felt like it was his first lol. AJ Burnett- what was his problem anyways? Rolling Eyes We could've easily beaten him with any other pitcher we have starting.

Dave, yeah it was a weak move by a minor league umpire on top of that.

I just never liked Blanton as a pitcher. Can't blow anyone away, doesn't have excellent stuff, location (unless you count the middle of the plate), or anything that puts fear into an opposing batter.

Lol, the Loney comment was funny to me too. Burnett's always been a hothead me. He seemed to be chirping quite a bit yesterday, and it wasn't like he was pitching well, just a bit better than Blanton. The saddest part as you mentioned is that we scored 6 runs, which usually means a win for us, but we had the Blanton effect.

^^Jeff- yeah lol on Blanton's location. Maybe he should focus on just getting it right there smack in the middle instead, and he'll hit the corners. Geez everytime he goes out, you just feel like we're throwing the game. Can't afford to give up any wins in this tight race. I'd bet if we start one of our long relievers- have him go like 4 innings, and let the rest of the bullpen take over, we'd give up probably 3 or 4 runs instead of 5, 6, 7 or 8 that Blanton will give up in just 1/2 the game.
